Anxiety and worry

Anxiety Counseling in Central Point, Oregon

Anxiety is loud. It wakes you up at 3 a.m., tightens your chest in the car, and makes you rehearse conversations that have not happened yet. You do not have to keep white knuckling it alone.

What anxiety can look like

Anxiety does not always look like panic. For many of the people I work with it shows up as constant overthinking, trouble sleeping, irritability, a stomach that is never quite settled, or a sense that something bad is about to happen even when life is going fine. Some people have panic attacks. Others have never had one but live with a low hum of dread they have carried so long they think it is just who they are.

It is not who you are. It is a pattern your mind and body learned, usually for good reasons, and patterns can change.

How I work with anxiety

I do not hand you a worksheet and send you home. In our first sessions we slow down and get curious about the anxiety itself: when it started, what it is protecting you from, and what it costs you. I draw on Internal Family Systems, Coherence Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I use whichever fits you rather than forcing you into a method.

Most people find that the anxious part of them has a job it is trying to do. When we understand that job, the part can relax, and the symptoms follow. Along the way you will also learn practical tools for the moments when your body has already hit the alarm.

What to expect

Sessions are 50 to 60 minutes in my Central Point office or by secure video. You set the pace. Some people come weekly for a season and then taper off. Others check in once a month. There is no set program, because you are not a program.

Common questions

Questions people ask

Do I need a diagnosis to start anxiety counseling?

No. You need to be tired of feeling this way. We will talk about what you are experiencing and go from there. If a formal diagnosis is helpful for insurance or your own understanding, we can address that together.

Will you tell me to just breathe and think positive?

No. Those tools have a place, but if they were enough you would not be reading this. We work on what is underneath the anxiety, not just the surface.

Do you offer anxiety therapy online for people in Medford or Grants Pass?

Yes. I see clients in person in Central Point and by secure video anywhere in Oregon.
